The training window for completing the online and offline training is determined by the Office of Executive Inspector General for the Agencies of the Illinois Governor (OEIG).

You should contact the Help Desk at 438-4357.

4. What happens if I don't complete my ethics training?

Failure to complete annual ethics training will result in the statutorily required reporting of your name to the Executive Inspector General. The penalties of noncompliance will be determined by the Illinois Executive Ethics Commission, based on authority granted within the law in addition to any internal disciplinary action imposed by the University.

5. Who should I call if I am having trouble logging in to the online training program?

You may visit the Ethics Training Information page or contact the Help Desk at 438-4357.  You may also contact the Ethics Training Administrator at 438-3383.

6. How long does the online program take to complete?

The online program takes between 30 minutes and one hour to complete.

7. How frequently must this training be completed?

The training is an annual requirement based on calendar year. As such, you will be required to complete ethics training each year.

8. How do I know I've completed the course?

When you have successfully completed the online training, you will have the option to print a certificate of completion, which you can retain for your records. The Ethics Training Administrator can also check the status of your training completion.

9. When am I supposed to complete this training? Will time be provided during work hours?

You should discuss your training schedule with your Supervisor. Since it is a state requirement based on your position, we are encouraging Supervisors to allow employees time to train during work hours or right before/after a shift.

10. Why do we have to take training on an annual basis?

It is a legal requirement of the State Officials and Employees Ethics Act. The training is intended to familiarize you with laws, rules and policies that apply to your ethical conduct as a University (state) employee. The Illinois Executive Ethics Commission has published a pamphlet discussing this training requirement entitled, "Why Ethics Training?"  that provides additional explanation.

11. I finished the training but forgot to print my certificate. What should I do?

Log in to Workplace Answers using your individual login ID and the password you created the first time you entered the course. Go to the Module List page. Click on the yellow tab in the upper left corner of the browser entitled, "My Records." Select the "Development Records.”  Your training status will appear and the “Certificate” link will be activated if the course has been completed.  Click the “Certificate” link to open and print the certificate of completion.

12. How long do I have to complete the training?

Those employees who are required to complete online ethics training must do so within the designated training period. There is a one-month window designated by the Office of Executive Inspector General for the Agencies of the Illinois Governor for University employees to complete the online training program. Offline ethics training must be completed within 30 days of hire, but is restricted to use by only undergraduate student employees, temporary extra help workers, as well as specific graduate students and permanent faculty and staff who were not on payroll before 8/31/09.

13. Can graduate students and academic hourly employees complete the offline training format instead of the online program?

No. Current standards require participation in the online program.

14. Can I print a copy of the internet-based training materials?

Employees are permitted to print one copy of the training materials for personal use only. Materials may not be duplicated, distributed or disclosed to anyone else, as they are protected by copyright.
